Bird Photo Quiz 5 answer
This photo quiz was a bit of a trick. There were two birds in the photo, not one as most were expecting. The Sandhill Crane easily stood out in the picture but the Ring-necked Pheasant was a little bit more hidden, only exposing it's head. Lynne at Hasty Brook (http://hastybrook.blogspot.com/) was the first one to identify the Sandhill Crane and Hap from New Hope, MN identified the Ring-necked Pheasant. Even though the birds in the quiz were easy to identify one of them did not quite stand out like the other. Here is a photo of the crane and pheasant side by side. This time you can see the pheasant better.

Bird Photo Quiz 3 Answer
John G from California identified every bird in the photo correctly. I would give an explanation on how to identify them, but that's time I could be outside birding in the nice spring weather instead of sitting on the computer.
From Right to Left: Black-legged Kittiwake (ad), Ring-billed Gull (1st winter), Franklin's Gull (ad), Ring-billed Gull (ad)
If you would like to learn how to identify gulls of North America I suggest buying the Gulls of the Americas by Howell and Dunn. It can be purchased at http://www.abasales.com/.

Bird Photo Quiz 3
As you can clearly see this photo quiz has gulls in it. But can you identify them all? Since the picture is small in the post, click on it to make it larger to help you see field marks. It was taken in Iowa in late October.

Bird Photo Quiz 2 Answer
Congratulations to Chris W once again for being the first one to identify the bird as a Rough-legged Hawk! Bill Bossman also correctly identified it as well. I got a couple up-close shots of the same bird before it flew away and caught the mouse as it hovered right outside the car. I am not going into details on how to identify this bird since I don't have the time right now so maybe later. This hawk literally hovered right out side the window as we got shots of it from 15 feet away. It didn't come over to my window however, so I had to try to take photos around the driver.
In the shot below the "rough legs" which they are named for are very apparent.
Here is a photo of the hawk when he landed to consume the rodent you saw him carrying in the photo quiz.

Tucker's Bird Photo Quiz 1
I posted a different shot of the bird (which is a gull) to make the identification a bit more straightforward. The picture was taken in Iowa at a large reservoir in late fall. I will try to put the location and time of the year and an easier to identify shot next time.
